COURSE DESCRIPTION

Interior design is a thriving industry – and now you've the chance to get amongst it. Study the Bachelor of Applied Design (Commercial Interiors) at Billy Blue College of Design, and enjoy the unique chance to specialise in your area of passion – commercial interiors – in just three years.

Develop and design unique interiors for commercial interior environments, ranging from hotels, bars, restaurants and workspaces to the interiors of animation/film and game design. This course explores areas fundamental to commercial interiors like branding, lighting, sustainability and materiality, and learn the practicalities of designing inspiring commercial environments. Assess commercial interior design strategies, see how commercial interiors can engage an audience, and apply theory to practice by inventing a range of commercial interior design solutions for real clients.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The objective of this course is to develop ethical, reflective and professional practitioners who can access a body of knowledge enabling them to work in an interdisciplinary team to research, plan, organise, conduct and successfully complete creative, sustainable and cost effective strategies to a professional standard for the Australian and international market.

DESIGN A COMMERCIAL INTERIORS CAREER

Get ready to take on the world as a mighty creative commercial interior designer. Based in an architectural or interior design practice you'll design everything from cafes, hotels, restaurants, exhibitions and workplaces to the interiors of games, virtual worlds and animations. You might even specialise in hospitality design, corporate design, retail design, exhibition design, set design, or virtual commercial interiors.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 18 years of age prior to course commencement with completion of Australian High School Year 12 and an ATAR of 63.40/UAI of 60+ (or equivalent) OR
  • Mature age (aged 21 or over) entry with relevant work experiences AND
  • Submission of a design portfolio (6–10 pieces of original creative work) AND
  • Personal or phone interview (where possible) AND
  • IELTS 6.0 (academic) with a minimum of 5.5 in each band if English is not your first language.
