Billy Blue recently played host to the 2014 Southern Cross Packaging Awards Ceremony.
Each year, institutions enter the Southern Cross Packaging competition from all-over Australia with over 500 entries received. And each year the number of amazing entries increases.
The competition gives students the chance to work on industry-based briefs and to liaise with technical experts across the country for feedback on their designs and the materials they are using. The depth of design thinking required in the design rationales and the user-centred objectives of the briefs align exactly with the approach Billy Blue takes through all of its visual communication subjects.
Billy Blue has had a long association with the Southern Cross Packaging Awards and 2014 was Lisa Molloy's and Paul Devonshire's first year of mentoring students through the process.
Our distinguished guests on the night included Tanya Plibersek – Federal Member for Sydney, Jen Salem from Packaging Council of Australia who facilitates the competition, and CEO Ainslie Cahill from Arthritis Australia, a major sponsor of the competition.
We are extremely proud of the results the students achieved: nine Billy Blue entrants came away with seven awards between them, including gold, silver, 'Highly-Commended' and the coveted 'Best in Show' award.
Katie Holgate took the Best in Show Award and won two gold awards for her packaging and design rationale for the Arthritis Australia brief.
Other Billy Blue Winners:
- GERALDINE CAVE (SILVER)
- SARA CALEN (SILVER)
- JESS GUINA (SILVER)
- FRIEDA LAI (HIGHLY COMMENDED)
Special mentions to Jessica Chen, Mike Kan, Ailen Khu, Debbie Wong.
Billy Blue thanks all involved for a wonderful night and looks forward to being involved in the 2015 Southern Cross Packaging Awards!
